Both sides now: 9/3/11 + 9/4/11

Twirl

This last long weekend of the season showed two faces. A sunny Saturday is the yang, the bright side of the doppelgänger, the antecedent to the yin of a gloomy Sunday – as if the end of summer isn’t already crap enough. And so I go to the beach when it’s cold. And that huge … Read more

Skatewalk

I may spend too much time in the sun. I may have been bred for warmer climates. I may get too much pleasure out of sitting my ass on the sand and turning the clouds and the waves into a rolling film in my head. Hell, I may be no better than a couch potato with a … Read more

Flair 3

Seen at the beach: Flair Bartending. It’s a thing. Bloody cool to watch. Ironically, also causes bloody knuckles to practice.

How to survive entry level

Entry level

Originally published in jobpostings magazine.   My friend once summed up the agency newbie experience in one sentence: “long hours, shit pay, no social life… but an amazing job.” It’s pretty true, entry level is where you pay your dues, but you want to use this time to learn, quickly. An old VP used to … Read more

Higher learning: 4/22/11

Since my best friend is moving, I went over to help her pack. Aside from her clothes, her collection of notebooks/course kits/essays took up the most amount of room (a side-effect of earning her double major in Professional Writing and Cognitive Science). This was her smallest pile of notes.

Queens for a day: 4/21/11

LowLife.ca is not a real website. I checked.

Some friends and I spent the evening on Queen Street West. Paparazzism ensued. Also, a lesson in harsh lighting effects.

Middle finger to the world… or maybe it was me: 4/19/11

An oldie but a goodie.

House Hunting, 4/16/11

Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn't know you left open. ~John Barrymore

My best friend is hunting for a new place. We ended up in a sketchy area by the Gardiner around King West, but I tried to see the beauty in the experience. A for effort? The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes. ~Marcel Proust

Introducing the Blackberry Photo Project

I used to sell cameras at Future Shop, and I would love to buy myself a decent DSLR (namely so I can get as good as my friend Regen Chen: http://www.regenandhisphotography.com/). However, in the meantime, I find it a hassle to even carry around my tiny Kodak V570 (first and only dual-lens digital on the … Read more

A tale of snowflakes, Squirtle and Star Trek

You know what’s depressing about winter? The fact that nobody is talking about it! Sure, it’s crunch time for my fellow students when it seems like there are about 10 huge projects due within a 48-hour period, and sure this means we’ve got to say goodbye to a big chunk of our bank account for … Read more

  • charity : water

Do you remember what you got for your last birthday? I don't. I donated my birthday to raise money for water projects in developing communities and made my birthday truly count for something.

charity : water tells you exactly where your money went to and how every penny of it was used. In fact, I've had friend volunteer abroad whose projects were funded by charity : water, so I know they're really making a difference in the world.
